THISTLE, Utah County — A Colorado man died Monday night when his motor home slammed head-on into a semitrailer hauling frozen food on U.S. 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon.
The accident happened shortly after 11 p.m. about a mile west of the junction with U.S. 89 on the snow-packed canyon road. The Utah Highway Patrol reported that the eastbound truck crossed into the westbound lanes to pass another vehicle. Troopers are trying to determine if weather was a factor.
The truck driver and a passenger were treated at the scene, but the driver of the motor home, Offie Lewis Nusser, 75, of Ft. Garland, Colo., suffered fatal injuries, the UHP said.
Troopers tallied 13 crashes and 20 slide-offs in Salt Lake and Utah counties from midnight to 10 a.m. Tuesday.
