SALT LAKE CITY — Heavy winds and snow blowing across northern Utah not only made for poor driving conditions, they also caused hours-long power outages Monday night.
Rocky Mountain Power officials said about 6,000 customers in the Magna and Herriman areas and 3,000 in Salt Lake City were without power due to problems associated with Monday's winter storm.
New wiring is needed in Magna and Herriman after wind-blown trees damaged power lines about 8 p.m. Rocky Mountain Power spokesman David Eskelsen estimated it would take two to three hours for power to be restored. About 3,000 people in the area of 1100 East and 800 South in Salt Lake were affected by outages, and workers were assessing damage and how to get power back up and running.
About 675 people in the Lark and Copperton area were also without power Monday night, along with 100 customers in Cedar City for about an hour, and another 1,800 people in Pleasant View and Harrisville, where power was out from 8 p.m. to 9:20 p.m.
