OREM — Men dedicated to helping stem violence against women have the chance to "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" on Saturday, April 10, at 8:30 a.m. in the University Mall in Orem.
Men will be encouraged to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes to help bring awareness to the issue, with similar walks planned in other parts of the country. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in front of PF Chang's, and people of all ages are invited to participate. A $5 registration fee will be charged, but high school students who show identification can participate for free.
Rape is the only violent crime in which Utah ranks higher than the national average, according to Stephanie Bennion, co-organizer of the event. "It's happening everywhere." National organizers say a woman is raped every 90 seconds in America.
