NEW FILMS FRIDAY

CLASH OF THE TITANS — ★★ The fantasy remake is one of the flatter would-be blockbusters of late. Sam Worthington stars. Running time: 106 minutes; PG-13 (violence, gore, profanity, slurs, vulgarity, brief sex, nude art)

MOTHER — ★★★ What really holds our interest in this revenge-thriller is the quietly forceful lead performance. Korean with subtitles; running time: 129 minutes; R (profanity, violence, brief gore, sex, slurs, torture, nudity, vulgarity, brief drugs)

A PROPHET — ★★★½ — For all its harshness and two-hour-plus running time, this gangs-in-prison drama is surprisingly compelling. French with subtitles; running time: 149 minutes; R (violence, profanity, drugs, sex, slurs, gore, vulgarity, nudity, torture)

THE SECRETS OF JONATHAN SPERRY — ★★ An earnest and determined — but dull — religious drama. Gavin McLeod stars. Running time: 96 minutes; PG (violence, slurs)

TYLER PERRY'S WHY DID I GET MARRIED TOO? — Playwright-turned-filmmaker Perry and Janet Jackson star in this dysfunctional couple sequel. To be reviewed next week; running time: 121 minutes; PG-13 (sex, vulgarity profanity, drugs, violence)
