REI presents classes on hiking, biking basics

SANDY — A couple of free presentations will offer basics on hiking, bicycle maintenance and mountain biking at the Sandy City REI store, 10600 South and 230 West, in the northwest corner of the South Towne Mall property.

Thursday at 7 p.m., participants can learn the ins and outs of hiking, including how to dress, footwear choices and the 10 essentials everyone should have when they head out on the trail. Local destinations and resources will also be discussed.

On Thursday, April 8, a class on basic bicycle maintenance will be held at 7 p.m. In this presentation, participants will learn how to lube a chain, fix a flat tire and make other minor adjustments to their bicycles.

Also on Thursday, April 8, veteran mountain biker and REI staff member John Higgins will offer an informative 90-minute presentation on how to get started in mountain biking. He will cover styles of mountain biking, equipment, basic skills and where to ride.
