MANTUA, Box Elder County — High winds caused a semitrailer truck to roll Tuesday on U.S. 89 in Sardine Canyon, snarling traffic.
The truck, which was pulling an empty box trailer, rolled after it was hit by a gust of wind about 1:10 p.m., said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden.
The driver was uninjured in the crash.
The trailer and truck blocked all of the southbound lanes and one northbound lane.
The crash prompted troopers to close the canyon to high-profile vehicles. Drivers of high-profile vehicles can use state Route 30 as an alternate route.
Meanwhile, Utah Department of Transportation crews cleared a messy accident on northbound I-15 near Santaquin, where a truck hauling a trailer full of mulch lost control around noon.
The mulch spilled out, closing down both lanes for more than an hour with traffic routed around on the shoulder, UDOT officials said. No serious injuries were reported.
