LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Logan City Fire Chief Mark Meaker says he will retire on May 1.
In a letter to Logan Mayor Randy Watts, Meaker says he's had a rewarding career and accomplished everything he intended to.
Meaker came to the head of Logan's fire department in 2003 following a career as chief of the Elk Grove, Calif., fire department. He has served a total of 13 years a fire chief and 39 years as a firefighter.
Meaker says he intends to remain in Providence with his wife and son and says he looks forward to spending more time with his growing number of grandchildren.
He says he'll likely look for new opportunities to volunteer service within his church and in Cache Valley.
