Florida's Meyer apologizes for tirade

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida coach Urban Meyer has apologized to the reporter he berated last week for publishing a quote by one of his players.

Meyer spent more than 20 minutes with the Orlando Sentinel's Jeremy Fowler following spring practice Saturday. Fowler declined to divulge details of the discussion, but called it a "constructive" conversation and said he accepted Meyer's apology.

Wade beats tennis' Roddick in H-O-R-S-E

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. — Dwyane Wade has unveiled a new move: leaping over the net. It was a tennis net.

Wade's hurdle came at the start of his drive to the basket for a layup in a game of H-O-R-S-E against Andy Roddick. He made the shot and averted an embarrassing defeat for the NBA, rallying to win the celebrity showdown on a practice court Saturday at the Sony Ericsson Open.

A no-dunk rule imposed by Roddick helped keep the game close. He sank several shots early and led H-O-R to H, which had Wade resorting to the leap over the net and other inventive maneuvers.

As a warmup to the game, Roddick handed Wade a racket and they hit for several minutes. Wade said he last played tennis in high school, and it showed.

Joey Porter arrested for drunken driving

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Authorities say NFL linebacker Joey Porter has been arrested in Bakersfield on suspicion of drunken driving and accused of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.

The California Highway Patrol says the 33-year-old player was confronted by officers early Saturday in a fast-food parking lot.

Porter refused to provide his driver's license and began to roll up his window when asked to leave the car. Police say that when an officer reached to unlock the door Porter slapped the officer's hand.

Porter eventually got out and complied with orders, placing his hands behind his back. He and a passenger were arrested.

The 11-year veteran recently signed with the Arizona Cardinals. He also has played for Pittsburgh and Miami.
