PROVO — BYU and Oregon State squared off in the Las Vegas Bowl last December — and the Cougars and Beavers will be seeing even more of each other in coming years.
BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe announced Thursday that BYU and OSU have agreed to a home-and-home football series in 2011 and 2012. The first game is scheduled for Sept. 3, 2011, in Corvallis. The following year, on Sept. 1, 2012, the two teams will meet in Provo.
"We are excited about this series with Oregon State," Holmoe said. "Both teams have tremendous coaches who have enjoyed a lot of success. The two-game series should be very entertaining."
Cougar coach Bronco Mendenhall played football at Oregon State from 1986-87.
"I have great admiration for the BYU program and what coach Mendenhall and the Cougars have accomplished," coach Mike Riley said in a statement. "I think both teams enjoyed being around each other at the Vegas Bowl last December and I know our team will look forward to these games in the future."
The Beavers lead the all-time series between the two schools, 5-4. OSU is 4-1 against BYU in Corvallis while the Cougars are 2-1 against the Beavers in Provo. BYU defeated OSU, 44-20, in the Las Vegas Bowl in December.
