SALT LAKE CITY — Despite compiling a 14-17 record this year, Utah coach Jim Boylen is apparently being considered for the open coaching job at the University of Iowa.
Boylen's name has come up in several news sources as a possible candidate for the job vacated by Todd Lickliter after three losing seasons.
Boylen isn't commenting publicly, but according to Sports Illustrated's Seth Davis, Boylen is a "prime target" of Iowa's along with Wichita State's Gregg Marshall after Dayton's Brian Gregory said he wasn't interested.
Last year after leading the Utes to a 24-10 record and an NCAA berth, Boylen was considered for both the open Arizona and Memphis jobs. Later he got a raise from Utah from approximately $550,000 to $850,000 with a new five-year deal.
In three years at Utah, Boylen is 56-42. He has ties to the Big Ten as a former assistant at Michigan State under Jud Heathcote and Tom Izzo.
