The Escoffier Dinner, hosted by the American Culinary Federation Beehive State Chefs Chapter, takes place March 27, 6:30 p.m., at Log Haven in Millcreek Canyon.

Chef David Jones' nine-course dinner pays homage to legendary French chef Auguste Escoffier (1846-1935).

Price of the dinner is $125 per person, which includes wine pairings. For reservations, call 801-272-8255.

Harmons Grocery Stores has named Brian Morton as its new executive chef to oversee culinary operations in Harmons' 13 stores. Morton is a Culinary Institute of America graduate. He owned the Italian restaurant Pomodoro and was chef at Firenze. He currently teaches culinary classes at The Art Institute. (www.harmonsgrocery.com).

Utah's 24th annual Scouting for Food drive is this week. Cub Scouts are delivering donation bags to Utah doorsteps throughout the week, and they will be picked up on Saturday, March 27. Last year, the Scouting for Food drive generated approximately 1 million pounds of food for Utah's emergency food network.

Community Nursing Services' Art & Soup fundraiser is March 24-25 at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel, 150 W. 500 South.

Local restaurants provide soup to sample, and local artists provide artwork to enjoy. Lunch is from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and dinner is from 5-9 p.m. Price is $12 per person for either lunch or dinner.

Wienerschnitzel is hosting a $10,000 "Cash in on a Corn Dog" sweepstakes, where consumers can buy a corn dog for 79 cents, read the prize printed on the wooden stick and then redeem the stick for designated prizes (www.wienerschnitzel.com).

Brighton High School culinary students took first place at the Utah ProStart competition earlier this month. They competed against 21 other schools throughout Utah by preparing a three-course meal in 60 minutes. ProStart is a two-year curriculum supported by national and state restaurant associations to teach skills needed in the restaurant and food-service industry.

The Brighton team will represent Utah at the national ProStart competition April 30-May 2 in Overland Park, Kan.

Utah Food Services won an Achievement of Catering Excellence Award at the Catersource Conference and Tradeshow in Las Vegas. The award recognizes companies that have shown noteworthy achievement in the catering industry through culinary, business, community and professional development.
