Rock On...

Campaign trail

It's not that he's never stood out in a crowd, but now Shawn Bradley will really stand out.

The 7-foot-6 former BYU and NBA player plans to run for the Utah Legislature as a Republican, which would undoubtedly make him the tallest legislator in American history.

Rock On is therefore offering the following campaign slogans, free of charge:

"Shawn Bradley: Patrolling the paint for Utah."

"Democrats, don't bring that stuff in here."

"You think the economy scares me? I once took a charge from Shaquille O'Neal."

"I'll take Jackie Biskupski to the hoop and dunk on her liberal noggin."

Early exit

This has all got to be hard on incumbent Tim Cosgrove, who could end up running against a well-known former basketball ballplayer.

Unless, of course, Bradley does what he did at BYU and drops out early.

Do-over

Utah basketball coach Jim Boylen — who isn't all that busy this postseason — was in New York last week, providing commentary for CBS College Sports.

Boylen's job was to break down schemes, analyze trends and look ahead to upcoming games.

Same thing he was doing with the 14-17 Utes, minus the swearing.

Grappling issues

Tyler Shreve is the Ute quarterback recruit who wrestled his high school baseball coach to the ground last month after being dismissed from the team for skipping class and disrespecting coaches.

Hard to say whether the Utes will still allow him to play football, but on the bright side, maybe they'll reinstate wrestling.

All grown up

Former BYU quarterback Max Hall appeared at Pro Day in Provo two weeks ago, telling reporters he has a baby son he is training to play quarterback.

"I'm trying to keep his release high, above the ear," Hall joked with reporters. "He actually likes it when I do it. He's a great-looking kid. It's exciting. I have a little family now. I've got a kid. I feel like an old man."

Which is actually part of playing at BYU, isn't it?

Common goal

And lastly, Rock On's favorite quote so far from the NCAA tourney, compliments of USU's Jaxon Myaer, who last week said the Aggies were "kind of itching through all the nonsense and just trying to focus on the game."

Wow, what a coincidence.

Itching through the nonsense is exactly what Rock On tries to do, too.
