Free agent linebacker signs with Cards

TEMPE, Ariz. — Free-agent linebacker Joey Porter agreed to a three-year contract Friday with the Arizona Cardinals.

Terms of the deal were not immediately released.

Porter, an 11-year NFL veteran and four-time Pro Bowler, spent the past three seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He played the first eight years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With 92 career sacks, Porter trails only Jason Taylor (1271/2) in sacks among active players. Porter has 12 career interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, 23 forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries with two returned for TDs.

Dodgers' Scully released from hospital

LOS ANGELES — Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully was released from the hospital Friday after bumping his head and is looking forward to broadcasting a Dodgers exhibition game this weekend.

The 82-year-old Scully went to the hospital Thursday night as a precaution after he got up from bed too quickly, fell and hit his head, team spokesman Josh Rawitch said.

Scully expressed his thanks to everyone. "I apologize for any concern that I caused," he said in a statement.

Scully plans to work Sunday's Dodgers-Indians game in Arizona, his first spring training game this year.

Dodgers manager Joe Torre said he spoke Friday with the intensely private Scully.

"He sounded perfectly normal and in good spirits," Torre said. "He might just be a little embarrassed that everyone knows."

Scully is starting his 61st season with the team. He has been working on a series of one-year contracts and has said he's not sure what he will do after this season.
