Ogden Democrat Neil Hansen calling for House speaker David Clark to resign over Kevin Garn scandal
SALT LAKE CITY — An Ogden Democrat is calling on Utah House Speaker David Clark to resign, saying Clark mishandled the resignation of House Majority Leader Kevin Garn.
Garn resigned March 13 after acknowledging he paid a woman $150,000 to keep quiet about a nude hot-tubbing incident that took place a quarter century ago when she was a minor and he was 29 or 30.
Rep. Neil Hansen said Thursday he was disgusted at how Clark, a Santa Clara Republican, handled Garn's admission on the closing night of the legislative session.
After Garn's revelation, some lawmakers gave him a standing ovation, an action criticized by some as inappropriate and offensive.
Hansen says Garn's admission shouldn't have happened on the House floor.
Hansen also says Clark refused to let him speak during debate on several bills.
Clark says Hansen's complaints aren't worth commenting on.
