SALT LAKE CITY — Jim Winder will seek a second term as Salt Lake County Sheriff.
Winder announced his plans to seek re-election Tuesday during a news conference at the Oxbow Jail.
If re-elected, Winder said the sheriff's office will continue to "do more with less."
"We've succeed at delivering a safer county on a smaller budget," he said, "and that remains my commitment to the people of Salt Lake County, particularly during these challenging economic times."
Salt Lake County, Winder said, has had "two jails literally for the price of one" since Oxbow reopened last year. The programs-based facility is designed to prepare inmates for re-entry into the community with educational and skills training.
"We've developed successful rehabilitation programs to keep inmates from reoffending and coming back in through the revolving door," the sheriff said.
Winder said he prides himself as being a "working cop," including working graveyard shifts and spending significant time on the roads and in the jails.
