SALT LAKE CITY – An amended bill that would reduce education requirements unanimously passed the House Thursday and now heads to the governor for consideration.

HB166 would lessen mandates for public education, including dropping the Utah Basic Skills Competency Test for two years. Students have been required to pass the UBSCT before graduation or face receiving a diploma that indicates they did not pass the exam.

The legislation was sponsored by Rep. John Dougall, R-American Fork.
