Dixie State draws Cal Poly Pomona in NCAA Division II Tournament
A formidable first-round opponent awaits Dixie State in its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament.
The fifth-seeded Red Storm learned they will face Cal Poly Pomona on Friday in Bellingham, Washington in the first round of the West Regional when the bracket was unveiled on Tuesday morning. The fourth-seeded Broncos (22-6) finished as the runner-up in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) behind second seeded Cal-State San Bernardino.
Tip time for the game is 6:30 p.m. MT. If Dixie State (20-5) advances, it will face the winner of no. 1 seed Western Washington and eighth seed Central Washington on Saturday at 8 p.m. The Red Storm faced both teams in the preseason, beating Central Washington 78-75 in St. George and losing to Western Washington 81-73 in Bellingham.
Dixie State is one of two Pacific West Conference teams to receive a berth into this year's 64 team field. BYU-Hawaii also claimed a berth after its 100-84 victory over Hawaii Pacific on Monday night.
