SALT LAKE CITY — Last week, the Utah Jazz took a player out of the D-League. On Monday, they sent another one back.
For the second time this year, Kosta Koufos was assigned to the Jazz's affiliate in the NBA Development League. The 21-year-old practiced with the Jazz in the morning but was sent to join the Utah Flash in Orem instead of traveling with the team to Chicago.
This is the third D-League assignment in Koufos' two-year pro career. He played in one game — scoring 16 points with seven rebounds — before being recalled in late January.
Koufos' reassignment is another fortunate situation for the Jazz's newest member, Othyus Jeffers. He is a Chicago native and will get the chance to dress and possibly play tonight against the Bulls. Jeffers scored his first NBA points in Saturday's blowout win over the Los Angeles Clippers, two days after signing a 10-day contract with the Jazz from the D-League's Iowa Energy.
As for Koufos, the 7-foot center has only appeared in 25 of the Jazz's 62 games this season, averaging 1.2 points and 1.1 rebounds. He should play for the Flash when they head to Reno, Nev., this weekend.
