I am very disappointed in Utah lawmakers' lack of defense against SB54 to change sex education in Utah schools. Their job is to represent our state voice, and no one spoke up. Sen. Curt Bramble, R-Provo, believes "Utah is doing pretty well" when it comes to educating our students about reproductive health. Should we really stop there, or should we strive to improve and do better?
Instead of looking at only those who have no use for contraceptives in high school, we need to look at those who do. Kids who practice abstinence on their own may not need to know about contraceptives right away, but it's important for kids who are sexually active to know how to protect themselves.
