HERRIMAN — Former Mayor J. Lynn Crane will be honored during a tribute program Friday.
Crane was instrumental in Herriman's incorporation in 1999, watching the city grow from a rural town of 800 residents to an urban community of 22,000.
Mayor of the south valley city for more than a decade, Crane lost his bid for reelection in November to Josh Mills. Crane retired as city manager shortly afterward.
"Mayor Crane was dedicated to preserving our legacy as a community with its own identity, and but for his efforts, along with the other founders, we may very well not be living in a city called Herriman today," said Coralee Moser, member of the Citizen Tribute Committee. "Our beautiful and enviable master-planned community has much to do with his vision, his ability to bring people together and his tireless efforts to reach out to the broader community."
Friday's event, titled "A Lifetime of Service," will be at 7 p.m. at Fort Herriman Middle School, 15058 Mirabella Drive (6000 West). The public is invited to attend, and seats can be reserved by e-mailing HonorMayorCrane@gmail.com.
The program will include a tribute from Sen. Bob Bennett, participation by the UFA Honor Guard and music from the Herriman Community Orchestra and Chorus and Providence Children's Chorus.
A news release sent out about the event also said a special announcement will be made at the event.
