Kudos to Barack Obama for his "nuclear renaissance" — a refreshing step forward. Only Obama could take that step, as the Democrats have been the party of "no" to new nuclear power plant construction. His proposal to jump-start the industry with a $8.3 billion government loan guarantee is unnecessary, however. Instead, he should work to clear environmental impediments to construction. The utility industry will do just fine without government assistance.
