Roy rollover likely a result of road rage

ROY — A man suffered a neck injury Thursday in a rollover likely stemming from road rage, police said.

Two men driving white pickups were speeding and passing each other, pulling in front of one another and then slowing down on southbound I-15 near 5600 South just before 9 p.m., said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden.

At one point, one truck tried to get in front of the other, only to realize the other truck had sped up. Roden said the driver of the truck that had sped up swerved to avoid colliding with the other pickup and in so doing rolled the truck onto its hood.

The driver of that vehicle, a 31-year-old male who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered a neck injury that required surgery, Roden said.

There were also two children, ages 2 and 5, in the truck that rolled, though both were in car seats. The 5-year-old suffered minor cuts from broken glass; the 2-year-old was uninjured.

The other driver saw the accident and returned to the scene.

Roden said citations were issued, though he didn't know what they were. The crash is still being investigated.
