This monument notes the area where President Wilford Woodruff was born on March 1, 1807. Most sources list Farmington, Conn., as the place of his birth. At that time, the site was actually known as Northington, now Avon. President Woodruff grew up on a farm located about three-fourths of a mile from the marker. His contributions to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are remarkable. They include thousands of pages of personal journal written over decades, travel and missionary service, serving in the Quorum of the Twelve, issuing the Manifesto, dedicating the Salt Lake Temple and serving as the fourth president of the church.
