Drop the puck
Canada, the U.S. and Russia all play their openers in men's hockey. Canada decided to keep Ryan Getzlaf on its roster a week after he injured his ankle, and the hosts play Norway in their first game.
Back on her feet
American Lindsey Jacobellis was yards away from a snowboardcross gold in 2006 when she decided to grab her board in celebration while going over a jump. She caught an edge on the landing and crashed. She'll compete again in Vancouver against another talented field.
Don't blink
Germany's Jenny Wolf is a favorite in 500-meter speedskating after winning six of eight World Cup sprints so far this season.
Chan's chance
Patrick Chan is trying to become Canada's first men's figure skating gold medalist. He'll skate 24th in the short program. Reigning gold medalist Evgeni Plushenko of Russia drew the 10th spot. The U.S. men are toward the end. World champion Evan Lysacek and U.S. champ Jeremy Abbott are back to back at 28th and 29th, and Johnny Weir skates 25th.
