ST. GEORGE — Bids are being sought for the second phase of a solar project in St. George that helps supply the area with power.

The Spectrum newspaper reported on its Web site Monday that the next phase of the project could more than double the output of the 100-kilowatt SunSmart facility.

The solar farm is a joint project between the city and Dixie Escalante Power.

St. George gets only 40 percent of its electricity from coal-fired power plants. Nearly half comes from natural gas. The rest comes from renewables, including power from the solar farm.
