RIVERDALE, Weber County — A private Christian school in Riverdale has announced plans to sell its elementary school and stop its elementary education program.

Officials at Christian Heritage School say they plan to sell the elementary building to Good Foundations Academy, which is hoping to start operations later this year.

Steve Diehl, interim headmaster for Christian Heritage, says there are about 210 students enrolled in the elementary program.

The school, which is facing a budget crunch, laid off 12 employees, but it wasn't enough to make up the deficit.

Lawmakers approved funding for the Good Foundations school for the 2011-12 school year, but officials are hoping to move that funding up so the school can open in August.
