WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Aggies fell in a close match to UC Riverside, 4-3, Saturday in Las Vegas, Nev. The Aggies are now 2-3 this season after a victory over in-state rival Weber State, Wednesday, and losses to UNLV and UCR this weekend. The Highlanders are 1-3 thus far this season.
USU failed to pick up the doubles point, dropping the number two and three spots. Junior Hailey Swenson and freshman Jaclyn West triumphed over UCR's Roxanne Plata and Angelique Corpuz, 8-2, at the number one position. Swenson and West improved to 4-1 this season. At the number two position, sophomore Monica Abella and freshman Kristina Voytsekhovich battled to a 9-7 match but failed to overcome the Highlanders' Donna McCullough and Nadia Sakhakorn.
Junior Taylor Perry and senior Britney Watts fell at the number three spot, 8-6, to Natalie McKay and Taylor Raney.
Utah State battled back in singles action with wins at the number one, two and four spots. Swenson defeated UCR's Sakhakorn, 6-1, 6-3, at the number one spot, bringing Swenson up to a 4-1 singles record and an Aggie-high 8-2 season record. At the two position, West defeated the Highlanders' McCullough, 6-3, 6-1. Abella picked up the final point of the day for USU with a win at the number four spot, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4, over UCR's Corpuz.
Utah State returns to Logan where it hosts the next three matches of the season, beginning with North Dakota Friday, Feb. 19 at 12 p.m. All home matches are held at the Logan Sports Academy and Racquet Club and are free and open to the public.
