West Valley man accused in stabbing

SALT LAKE CITY — A 22-year-old West Valley man was charged Friday with attempted murder and aggravated burglary after he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's house and stabbed a man.

According to court documents, Manuel Velasquez went to his ex-girlfriend's apartment at 4631 W. 4715 South on Jan. 19 and started banging on and kicking the apartment door. When a man inside the apartment opened the blinds and told Velasquez to go away, Valesquez yelled at the man to get out of his house and tried to pick the lock, the court documents said.

When that didn't work, Valesquez went into the backyard and threw a chair through the sliding glass door. As Valesquez entered the apartment, his ex-girlfriend, who is the mother of his two children, ran out the front door and yelled for a neighbor to call police. Valesquez argued with the man in the apartment and stabbed him in the face, arm, and side before leaving, court documents state.

Both charges are first-degree felonies.
