SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Jazz fans with questions for Greg Miller now have a way to get their queries to the team's CEO. No self-addressed stamped envelope or carrier pigeons are required, either. Just the Internet.
The team unveiled a new feature on utahjazz.com this week called "Ask Greg." He received nearly 200 questions for the debut Q&A and responded to the three most-asked questions similar to these:
Why aren't the Jazz on KJZZ anymore?
Moving Jazz games to FSN-Utah and no longer televising them over-the-air for free "came down to simple competitive economics," and teams with games on cable "receive significantly more revenue," Miller said.
"The reality," he said, "is that as a small-market team, we needed that extra revenue from a cable deal in order to stay competitive on the court."
It also helped the Jazz keep a popular and productive player.
Giving new insight, Miller said the Jazz used TV funds to pay for Paul Millsap's front-loaded contract after agreeing to match Portland's offer sheet, saying "the only way we were able to do this was by using the extra money we received from FSN-Utah for moving all of the games to cable."
Continued Miller: "We felt like we would have been a worse team if we'd let Paul go, and in retrospect, we think we made the right decision."
Can the Jazz win with this team?
Not surprisingly, Miller was bombarded with questions about trades and Carlos Boozer. He reiterated the Jazz aren't going to make a move by the Feb. 18 trade deadline "just to get under the luxury tax." The front office will, however, "look long and hard" at deals that might improve the team.
Miller also talked about his excitement and high hopes for this team, which had won nine straight before Wednesday's loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
"Over the past month, we are playing the best basketball I've seen in this building since John and Karl's Finals years in '97-98," Miller wrote of the Jazz, who have won 13 of their last 15 games. "These guys have exploded, and it's fun basketball to watch. ...
"Personally, I like what we have on the court right now, our team chemistry is great, the locker room is united, and I think we have a good chance to win the Western Conference and get back into the NBA Finals this season."
