Centerville In-N-Out to open this summer

CENTERVILLE — The next In-N-Out Burger restaurant to open in Utah likely will be in Centerville, where the city's Planning Commission approved the California-based burger chain's final site plan Wednesday night.

The approval paves the way for In-N-Out to secure a building permit, a process that takes about one month, said Centerville community development director Cory Snyder.

"They're officially approved to go," Snyder said. "No more hoops."

Construction is expected to last about four months, Snyder said.

The restaurant, to be located at 475 N. 700 West, could have a grand opening, complete with a winding line of patrons, in June or July.

In-N-Out currently operates five restaurants in Utah: Washington city, Orem, American Fork, West Jordan and Draper.

On Wednesday, Utahns learned that the chain had purchased 1 acre of land for a restaurant in Riverton.

In-N-Out vice president of planning and development Carl Van Fleet said the company also is pursuing restaurants in West Valley City, Spanish Fork, Layton and other locations in the greater Salt Lake City area.

The Centerville site plan is large enough to allow In-N-Out to lease land to another fast-food restaurant if it desires.

No tenant has been selected yet, Snyder said, because In-N-Out plans to capture a share of the traffic already flowing through the city's business district surrounding Parrish Lane.

In-N-Out won't be the only new restaurant in Centerville. McDonald's, which owns a restaurant just to the north of the Centerville property, is in the process of securing a building permit with the city to build a new restaurant on that same property and tear down its current one, Snyder said.
