Foundation divvies out technology upgrades

SALT LAKE CITY – Thanks to a "refresh" grant from the David Bohnett Foundation, the University of Utah's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center will be getting an upgrade.

The foundation awarded 24 different grants, totalling $500,000, to various CyberCenters across the nation, helping to provide the LGBT community with a wired hub through which its members are able to network, communicate and explore educational, professional and recreational opportunities. The "refresh" grants give each center new, state-of-the-art equipment updates approximately every three to four years.

The Utah Pride Center also received one of Bohnett's grants, as did schools and facilities in more than two dozen states. Since 1999, the foundation has provided more than $35 million in funding, technology and technical support to innovative organizations and institutions, including a broad spectrum of arts, educational and civic programs, LGBT-related causes, voting rights and registration initiatives, research and public policies to reduce the toll of firearm violence, and animal research and rights.
