DANE RHOADES, Tabiona, boys basketball: He's starting to hit his stride at just the right time.

Last Thursday he scored 15 points in Tabiona's 59-36 victory over Altamont, but even more impressive was the 24 points he scored against Rich two nights later as the Tigers picked up a 75-69 overtime victory over the top-ranked team in 1A.

So far this season Rhoades is averaging 17.0 ppg, which includes a career-high 32 points he scored against Altamont back on Jan. 22.

Thanks to Rhoades' increased production, Tabiona has won seven of its last eight games and is still in the hunt for the Region 16 championship.

AMY ANDRUS, Sky View, girls basketball: In her fourth year as a varsity starter, Andrus is still the go-to player, especially in the paint. She's scored 86 points in the past four games and is averaging 16.5 ppg, as well as 9.5 rebounds and two steals.

"Athletically, she is one of our strongest players, as well as one of our most dedicated practice players," said coach Paul Hansen. "She is always wanting to become a better team player."

Andrus is also a top-notch track athlete, taking second in shot put last year, and a varsity volleyball player. She's being recruited by college coaches for both basketball and track.

"She's very strong-minded, and she's very pleasant," said Hansen.
