Salt Lake man taken in after reports of swerving in Utah County
OREM — A Salt Lake man was jailed Friday after witnesses on I-15 reported seeing him climb out of his window and sit on the door while speeding and swerving down the freeway.
A Utah Highway Patrol trooper who stopped the man just off the Orem/Lindon exit called in a Utah County K-9 unit, which found "a substance similar to hallucinogenic mushrooms" inside the car, according to an affidavit filed in 4th District Court.
Five witnesses told UHP they saw the man "intentionally swerving at other vehicles" starting near the Thanksgiving Point/Highland exit. One man who was out of his car reported that the driver "drove at him and tried to hit him with the vehicle."
Lawrence Wright, 25, was booked for investigation of aggravated assault, drug possession, driving under the influence and reckless driving. He has several prior drug-related and traffic court convictions.
