MAGNA — A 14-year-old girl was in extremely critical condition Monday after being struck by a car while on her way to school.
Just after 7 a.m., the girl, a ninth-grader at Brockbank Junior High, was hit while in a crosswalk near 2700 South and 8700 West. The driver, a 21-year-old woman, told police she did not see the girl, said Unified Police Lt. Don Hutson.
"It didn't appear the brakes weren't used at all. There were no skid marks," Hutson said.
The driver did not have any obvious signs of impairment, he said. It was dark at the time of the accident. A witness coming from the opposite direction saw the entire incident.
The Granite School District sent grief counselors to the school Monday. The UPD's Major Accident Team is investigating.
