Library celebrates black history with African American research series

SALT LAKE CITY — Author and genealogist Darius Gray will be the keynote speaker at the seventh annual African American Family History research series Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Family History Library. Gray's presentation "The African American Family: We Must Remember!" will be 9:30 a.m. in the library's main floor classroom.

The research series, sponsored by the Utah Chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society and the Family History Library, is free and also includes classes on beginning research, land records and migration patterns.

To register for these classes, e-mail FHLClassReg@ldschurch.org and note desired classes, call 801-240-4950 or in-person by 9 a.m. Saturday.

Library staff and volunteers will also be available throughout the day to assist patrons with personal research.

The Family History Library is at 35 N. West Temple, directly west of Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City.

YSA sports event Friday in Murray

MURRAY — A young single adult late-night activity featuring myriad sporting activities is Friday in Murray.

YSAs 18-30 years old in the Salt Lake Valley are invited to attend the event at the Sports Mall, 5445 S. 900 East, on Friday from 10:45 p.m. to 1 a.m. There will be three-on-three basketball tournaments, swimming races, line dancing, squash, dodge ball, wallyball and tennis. Law society conference Feb. 11-13

SALT LAKE CITY — Stephen R. Covey, best-selling author and leadership entrepreneur, will speak at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at the annual J. Reuben Clark Law Society Fireside in the Salt Lake Tabernacle on Temple Square in Salt Lake City.

Covey's talk, "Blessed Are the Peacemakers," is free and open to the public. The fireside will also be broadcast live on the LDS Church satellite network and later at 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
