SWIMMING AND DIVING: The Utes head south to take on Mountain West Conference and in-state rival BYU this Thursday in the Stephen L. Richards Building in Provo. The meet is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Utah's women are 7-5 overall, 4-3 in the MWC, while the Ute men are 2-5 and 0-4.
Last week, Utah's women's team traveled east to take on No. 19 Arkansas, where it fell to the Razorbacks, 195-100, on Saturday.
Juniors Natalie Edge (South Jordan, Utah) and Maiya Otsuka (Littleton, Colo.) were the top performers for the Utes against the Razorbacks. Edge recorded a first-place time in the 100 freestyle at 51.37 and took a third-place position in the 50 free with a time of 23.91. She also helped the Utes finish first in the 200 freestyle relay, where they beat the Razorbacks with a time of 1:35.94.
Otsuka placed first in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:28.74 and recorded second-place times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with times of 1:05.74 and 2:18.74, respectively. Her time in the 100 breaststroke was also a new personal best.
Freshman Ashley Andreason (Fountain Valley, Calif.) recorded new personal bests in the 100 and 200 butterfly events against the Razorbacks with times of 1:00.92 and 2:14.51, respectively. Freshman Kayla Buck (Folsom, Calif.) improved her personal best in the 1,000 freestyle, clocking a time of 10:45.21, while senior Kristina Helmers (Pennington, N.J.) shaved off 31.99 seconds from her personal best in the 1,000 free, giving her a new time of 11:02.94.
Off the platforms, junior Kwan "Queenie" Ling Yu (Yuen Long, Hong Kong) finished second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 283.43, only 3.75 points behind Arkansas' Liana Bugslag. Yu also finished strong in the 3-meter dive, rounding out the top three with a score of 301.05.
The BYU women's team is currently undefeated (10-0, 7-0 MWC).
