Redwood Road accident leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

TAYLORSVILLE — Northbound lanes on Redwood Road near the 6200 South intersection have been reopened following an accident Monday that left one person dead and two people in the hospital, police said.

Police aren't sure what caused the accident, but about 6:15 p.m., a blue pickup truck was turning left to go west on Redwood Road when a gray pickup heading south t-boned the other truck, sending it spinning out of control into the south end of the intersection. The gray truck careened off west into a building at the southwest corner of the intersection, said Taylorsville police detective Shannon Bennett.

The driver of the blue truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Bennett said police are awaiting family notification before releasing information about the victims.

The passenger of the blue truck was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition, and the other truck's driver was transported in serious condition.

Bennett said he didn't know what caused the accident, how fast the trucks were traveling or if any of the victims were wearing seatbelts.

All but one southbound lane initially were closed after the accident, but the northbound lane on Redwood Road was later reopened, and drivers traveling south on Redwood were able to turn right and go west onto 6200 South. Other westbound or eastbound travel across the intersection remained closed, police said.

An investigation is under way, and Bennett said a major accident team was called to assist.
