A bill that would allow Utahns to collect rainwater for use on their own property won Senate approval Monday.
SB32, sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Scott Jenkins, R-Plain City, was amended on the floor before the vote to spell out the water could only be used on the parcel on which it was captured.
Jenkins said the amendment, made by Sen. Ben McAdams, D-Salt Lake, was intended to settle concerns that collected water would be moved around.
But Sen. Chris Buttars, R-West Jordan, criticized the amendment as government going too far.
The bill passed 25-2-2 and now goes to the House.
