RALEIGH, N.C. — Cam Ward made 26 saves, and new captain Eric Staal scored his third goal in two games as the Carolina Hurricanes won their third straight by beating the New York Islanders 4-1 on Thursday night.

Matt Cullen, Stephane Yelle and Jussi Jokinen added goals for the surging Hurricanes, who have won four of five.

SENATORS 4, PENGUINS 1: At Pittsburgh, Brian Elliot made 30 saves to win his sixth consecutive start and Ottawa tied a club record with its eighth straight win.

KINGS 4, BLUE JACKETS 1: At Columbus, Ohio, Anze Kopitar scored his 100th and 101st career goals and Los Angeles tied a season high with its fourth straight win.

THRASHERS 4, FLYERS 3: At Philadelphia, Jim Slater's second goal of the game snapped a tie and lifted Atlanta over the Flyers.

COYOTES 3, FLAMES 2 (SO): At Glendale, Ariz., the Coyotes blew a two-goal, second-period lead, but Robert Lang and Lauri Korpikoski scored in the shootout to give Phoenix the victory and send Calgary to its ninth straight loss

WILD 1, AVALANCHE 0: At Denver, Martin Havlat's goal with 4:49 left lifted Minnesota over Colorado, denying Craig Anderson another shutout and handing the Avalanche their first loss since Jan. 8 at Carolina.

BLUES 2, OILERS 1: At Edmonton, Alberta, Eric Brewer and Alexander Steen had goals as St. Louis handed the Oilers their 12th straight loss.

BLACKHAWKS 4, SHARKS 3: At San Jose, Calif., Troy Brouwer scored his second goal of the game 1:37 into overtime to lead Chicago.
