LAKE POINT, Tooele County — A traffic accident that killed three people has shut down state Road 36 in both directions, the Utah Highway Patrol reports.
Few details are known, but UHP troopers said for some reason a vehicle traveling southbound on state Road 36 near Lake Point, where I-80 merges with the road, ended up sideways in the northbound lane, where a semi broadsided it at about 6:45 p.m.
A man, woman and toddler were killed in the crash, and troopers are working to extricate the bodies.
Northbound travelers are being diverted to I-80, and southbound traffic is not being allowed off I-80 and is being diverted to Grantsville, dispatchers report.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
