BYU
SOFTBALL: The BYU softball team (38-17, 11-5) heads into the final week of regular season play, trying to regain the Mountain West Conference lead.
BYU will host UVSC on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before it plays a doubleheader at Colorado State on Thursday and a weekend series with New Mexico. BYU is two games back of league-leader San Diego State.
SUU
SOFTBALL: Southern Utah will try for its third straight NCAA tournament bid this weekend when the Thunderbirds try to win the Summit League tournament. SUU will be the No. 2 seed and will open the tournament Friday at 12:30 p.m. against No. 3 seed IPFW.
BASEBALL: Southern Utah will host its final home series this weekend, in a crucial four-game series with Centenary that will decide the conference tournament seedings.
Utah
TRACK & FIELD: After great performances by Chelsea Shapard and Alyssa Abbott at Friday's Arkansas Twilight, Utah will host the Utah Twilight event Wednesday in preparation for the MWC Championship meet at TCU.
Shapard broke the school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.07, beating her own school record set in 2007 by .40 seconds.
Abbott ran a NCAA regional qualifying time of 2:09.68 in the 800-meter run, which was good enough for fourth place.
BASEBALL: Utah (16-24, 5-12) will play five games this week: one on Tuesday against Southern Utah in Salt Lake City, and four on the road at Air Force. The Utes have lost four of their last six games and haven't won since a 9-4 win against UNLV on April 27.
SOFTBALL: For the first time in school history Utah Valley beat the University of Utah, 3-1, as the two teams split a doubleheader in Orem Monday. UVSC jumped to 17-33 on the season, ending a five-game win streak, and Utah moved to 28-23.
Utah State
SOFTBALL: Utah State softball will be the seventh seed for the upcoming WAC tournament Wednesday-Saturday in Hawaii. The Aggies face sixth-seeded San Jose State in Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The Aggies are 14-32 overall and finished regular-season WAC action in seventh-place with a 2-15 record. The Aggies were swept at Hawaii last weekend, 5-2 and 3-0 on Saturday and 5-0 on Sunday.
