Whenever someone mentions that our country has an obligation to provide free health care for its citizens, the critics point to Canada and the terrible health-care system they have. My wife has a friend who just lost her job and the health insurance that went with it. She has developed a pain in her side, the same pain she had a few years back when she had a ruptured cyst. Having no insurance, she can't afford to go to the doctor to have it checked out, let alone be treated. How is it that we, as a country, can allow this? I don't know much about Canada's health-care system. All I know is that in Canada, my wife's friend would have been treated.
