SYRACUSE A young girl playing with matches sparked a fire that caused more than $80,000 in damage to a home Sunday morning.
The fire started around 9 a.m. at a home near 2200 South and 3400 West, said Syracuse Fire Chief Craig Cottrell.
A 6-year-old girl playing with matches lit a bed on fire, Cottrell said, and the flames quickly spread to the rest of the house.
Firefighters put out the flames within minutes, but the fire caused between $80,000 and $100,000 in damage, officials said.
The young girl and her brother suffered minor smoke inhalation. They were treated on the scene, Cottrell said.
