Bishop's Record
Meanwhile, a court in San Angelo, Texas, released a series of court documents including a "Bishop's Record" of people living on the YFZ Ranch (listed as "R17") and in Short Creek, the name for the FLDS enclaves of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Ariz. The records were seized during the law enforcement raid on the FLDS compound.
The March 2007 papers list the names of men, their wives, their children and the ages of each of them. A handful of young women, ages 16 and 17, are listed as wives of men in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Others are married to men closer in age. Some women, the records show, live in a "house of hiding."
Parker said it was unfair to portray one family's problems as that of an entire community.
"I think the release of this record is a continuation of the effort by Texas authorities to malign these families as a group and prevent them from having their individual stories told," he told the Deseret News. "It (the record) tells us that some of these people are perfectly legitimate and are being targeted specifically for their religion."
