Anti-violence essays yield honors for 12
The Utah Board of Juvenile Justice will honor the finalists in the seventh annual Do the Write Thing Challenge during an awards luncheon in the Governor's Mansion.
The Utah finalists are: Casey Badger, Harrison Hughes, Christian Serage and Ben Stewart, all St. George; Amanda Groneman, Springville; Lauren Larsen, Ephraim; Michael Roche, Alexandra Maiava and Rachel Rowley, all Ogden; Gloire Seba, Salt Lake City; Lauren Smith, Provo; and Rachel Stevens, Hyde Park.
The national event, sponsored in part by the Kuwait-America Foundation, invites seventh- and eighth-grade students to write how violence has affected their lives and what they can do to prevent violence in their community. Utah's two top winners will be recognized with other national finalists at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
