Real Salt Lake: Seitz shows his stuff in goal for RSL
He came up with two fantastic saves in the second half to preserve the shutout. His first big save came in the 56th minute when he made a diving save to stone John Cunliffe on a breakaway opportunity.
About 20 minutes later Seitz again stoned Cunliffe, this time on a quick reactionary save on shot from about eight yards out.
Seitz, who's projected to make the U.S. Olympic team this summer, made four saves in the victory.
"I thought we got really pretty sloppy there (in the second half) but it was a good thing for Chris Seitz because he made quite a few very nice saves, clutch saves and showed he's a big goalkeeper," said RSL coach Jason Kreis.
The win probably wasn't enough for Seitz to knock off incumbent starting keeper Nick Rimando, but he's pleased with the way he played.
"Jason's made a big point if you play well he'll reward you, he showed it today bring the subs that he brought in, so he's always rewarding players," said Seitz. "It also goes along way for our confidence. Being with Nicky day in and day out is good training but being able to go into a game and translate onto the field is nice.
Cochrane suffered a cut to his forehead while Ayers was bleeding from his nose.
ORANGE BALL: Early in the second half, as the snow fall began to increase rapidly at Rice-Eccles Stadium, the referee decided to replace the silver MLS balls with an orange ball for better visibility. It was only the second time in franchise history that RSL used the orange ball, the other occurring in last April in an exhibition match against the Fiji National Team.
"It was tough enough to see the orange ball let alone keep going with the silver one," said Seitz.
UNDEFEATED IN GREEN: In celebration of Earth Day, RSL wore green uniforms on Wednesday. After the match, several fans could be heard chanting in the crowd for RSL to wear the green uniforms every match.
