• Ace of Hearts (Fox Home Entertainment, rated PG, $26.98) A family film inspired by a Reader's Digest story, Ace is a police dog paired with cop Daniel MacKenzie (Cain).
One day, a thief intentionally injures himself to make it look as if German shepherd was dangerous and tore him up. MacKenzie and his daughter, Julia (Britt McKillip) set out to prove Ace's innocence.
• African American Lives 2 (PBS Home Video/Paramount Home Entertainment, not rated, $24.99) The ancestry of contemporary African Americans is explored in this moving and fascinating PBS documentary hosted by scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr.
Using the most up-to-date genealogical techniques, including DNA analysis, and extensive historical research, the film (in four one-hour episodes) examines the histories of comedian Chris Rock, actors Don Cheadle and Morgan Freeman, poet Maya Angelou, singer Tina Turner, radio host Tom Joyner and others. In the romantic comedy, Swank, a recent widow, receives letters from her late husband who tells her how she can best get on with her life.
