The Utah National Guard Charitable Trust has received a $24,429 donation from Macey's that will provide emergency assistance to soldiers, airmen and their families.

The donation comes from proceeds of Macey's "Tailgating for Our Troops." The tailgating event featured meat sales, with 50 percent of the proceeds going directly to the trust. Macey's had planned to have the sale run for 10 weeks; however, the entire product line for was sold in just six weeks due to the overwhelming community support, according to a news release from the Guard.

The charitable trust was set up in 2006 to help the families of deployed servicemen and women. The Guard estimates that nearly 60 percent of deployed service members experience a decrease in income. The trust gives families who have exhausted all other available resources the ability to work their way to greater financial and emotional stability.

In its three-year history, the trust has given aid to more than 100 military families.
