SANDY Around 2,400 students at Alta High were evacuated about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday due to a gas leak in the nearby area.
A number of businesses, including a preschool and an Instacare facility to the south of the high school, were also evacuated, said Sandy fire spokesman Zach Robinson. No homes were evacuated, he said.
A Jordan School District spokesman said no gas had been detected in the school, but as a precaution the Sandy Police Department asked that students and teachers evacuate the area.
Officials say buses were called early to transport the students, running the regular routes.
The leak was found in a pipe near the school and fixed by Tuesday afternoon, officials said. No injuries were reported, and Alta will resume a regular school schedule today.
