WEST JORDAN Copperton resident Steven Lovendahl, 30, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a first-degree felony murder charge in the Aug. 11 slaying of Kevin Shepherd.
Shepherd was shot following an argument in an apartment complex near 200 South and 500 East in Copperton. He was shot in the arm but the bullet traveled through his body and lodged in his spine, according to 3rd District Court documents. Shepherd died as friends were taking him to a nearby hospital.
Third District Judge Robert Adkins scheduled a status conference for Aug. 11 at 8:30 a.m. and set Sept. 17-19 for trial.
